IRVING – North Texas redshirt senior guard Terriell Bradley
has been named to the 2018-19 Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason Team, and the Mean Green have been chosen to finish seventh in the 14-team league by a vote amongst the C-USA head coaches, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
Bradley, also a preseason pick last season, returns as a 2017-18 C-USA First Team selection after posting averages of 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. The New Orleans native is the program's only player to be named to the C-USA Preseason All-Conference Team since North Texas joined the league in 2013.
Head Coach Jalie Mitchell
said, "I am extremely excited for Terriell. She has earned the right to be on such an esteemed list of accomplished student-athletes, and I am looking forward to what she will achieve throughout her last season."
Last year, Bradley scored 20 or more points on 16 occasions and led the team in rebounds with 172. Versus Florida International Feb. 8, Bradley connected on nine straight three-pointers to set a UNT and C-USA record, and was one shy of tying the NCAA record.
Bradley also found herself ranked in the top 10 within the North Texas record books for her performances in 2017-18 which included her multiple 20-plus point outings (third all-time) and her scoring average (fifth). She drained 164 free throws to set a Mean Green record while tying the mark with 18-consecutive free throw makes. The 40.9 three-point field accuracy posted by Bradley ranks as third-best, her 52 three's are the ninth-most, and the 181 field goals made totaled the 10th
most in a single season at UNT.
The Mean Green were slotted behind favorite UAB (eight first place votes), Rice (five votes), Middle Tennessee (one vote), WKU, Charlotte, and Louisiana Tech. Southern Miss, Florida Atlantic, UTEP, Old Dominion, UTSA, Marshall, and FIU rounded out the poll.
"Our team continues to strive to be the best this program has ever seen," said Mitchell. "We have something to prove every year. This season is no different. We believe, and we must do the work to continue to achieve more. I have no doubt we will do just that."
Erica Ogwumike of Rice was chosen as the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year. Laia Raventós (Charlotte), Kierra Anthony (LA Tech), Alex Johnson (MTSU), Shonte Hailes (Southern Miss), Deanna Kuzmanic (UAB), and Rachael Childress (UAB) join Bradley and Ogwumike on the Preseason Team.
The 2018-19 season begins Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. as the Mean Green host Mary Hardin Baylor in an exhibition contest with the regular season set for Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. versus Mid-America Christian inside the Super Pit.
