WINDERMERE, Florida – The Mean Green had a rough opening round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf & Country Club on Sunday.
With two rounds still left to play, UNT is currently in 15th place after shooting a 16-over-par 304 – eight shots back of the next closest team.
UNT, which entered the tournament at No. 48 in the initial GolfStat national poll of the year, struggled to put together many runs of successful holes.
The lone bright spot on the day was senior Thomas Rosenmueller
, who is wrapping up a successful fall season and fired a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday to put himself in a tie for 15th place entering Monday's second round.
UNT's second-best performer on the day was Kristof Ulenaers
, who shot a 5-over par, thanks to an eagle on the 573-yard Par-5 seventh hole, and is tied for 60th.
"Thomas had a solid day," UNT coach Brad Stracke
said. "I am surprised we didn't have a few more low scores today. The guys had a good practice session after the round, and we know we can play better tomorrow."
The Mean Green will begin Round 2 on Monday at 8:15 a.m. CT, and will be paired with No. 21 South Carolina and No. 46 UCF.
