Cross Country Prepares For C-USA Championships

DENTON – North Texas travels to Boca Raton, Florida, for the Conference USA Air Force Reserve Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships hosted by Florida Atlantic at the Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park Saturday.
The women's 5k will begin at 7:30 a.m. CST followed by the men's 8k at 8:15 a.m.
The field features 11 men's teams in Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UTSA and WKU, while the women have 13 with the addition of Southern Miss and UAB.
The Mean Green men top C-USA in the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings with the eighth spot in the South Central Region and are led by two-time 2018 Athlete of the Week Florian Lussy.
"The men have an opportunity to run really well tomorrow, but they will need to run smart and disciplined," said Head Coach Kevin Williams. "The conditions are going to be hot and humid so I am expecting it to affect the field."
Rea Iseli, who earned C-USA weekly honors earlier this season, headlines the Mean Green women. "Rea seems very focused, and we are looking for a big run out of her in a very deep field," stated Williams.
"Both teams have had a good two weeks of training coming off of the race at Texas A&M. The course here is narrow with a lot of turns, so it will be important to run smart," added Williams.
Following the races, the first and second place men's and women's teams will receive trophies and the first place teams will receive individual awards. A plaque will be awarded to the top individual winners, men and women. The Outstanding Senior and Freshmen of the Meet Awards will be given to the highest placing senior and freshmen, men and women, at the Championship. Also, a Coach of the Year will be voted upon at the championship meet for the men and women.
