Cox, Sinolungan Pace Mean Green In Dallas

DALLAS – The UNT women's golf team began its final tournament of the fall schedule on Monday, playing two rounds at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU at the Trinity Forest Golf Club – home of the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship on the PGA Tour.
The Mean Green followed up a first-round 301 with a second-round 305 on Monday to put themselves in ninth place in the 12-team field, which features five teams in the GolfStat national poll's top 50 and two more ranked just outside the top 50 in No. 54 Kentucky and No. 58 Kansas.
The Mean Green were led by freshman Patricia Sinolungan and junior Lauren Cox, who finished tied for 25th after 36 holes at 6-over par. The teammates had identical scorecards, shooting 2-over par in Round 1 and 4-over in Round 2.
Freshman Audrey Tan is in 39th place at 9-over par, and senior Sabina Pena is tied for 44th at 11-over.

"We played pretty well today, except we had to take a high score in Round 1 and a high score in Round 2," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We are so close to competing for top-5 finishes against very strong teams, but we need to have everyone play well."
UNT will tee off in a shotgun start at 8 a.m., Tuesday, as the Mean Green will close out their fall schedule with the third and final round. They will be paired with Kansas and Kansas State, and will begin play on Holes 10-13. Live scoring can be found at and a full recap of the day will be posted on

"The goal for tomorrow is to play solid, manage the course and the wind and see how far we can move up," Akers said. "If we grab some more wins, it will improve our ranking heading into the offseason."
