Torrey Named C-USA Offensive POTW

IRVING - North Texas running back DeAndre Torrey was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week following his career-best rushing performance in the Mean Green's 41-38 win over Florida Atlantic last week, the league office announced Monday.

North Texas concludes the regular season with a trip to San Antonio to battle the 3-8 UT San Antonio Roadrunners from the Alamodome at 6 p.m. live on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network. North Texas has an opportunity to pick up back-to-back nine win seasons for just the second time in its 103-year program history with a win next week after previously doing so in 1977-78.

This marks the fourth time a Mean Green player has been named offensive player of the week, following Mason Fine's honors in both Week 1 and Week 3 and Torrey's in Week 10. Nate Brooks and Keegan Brewer also have won player of the week, for defense and special teams, respectively, both in Week 3.

Torrey (Gautier, Mississippi) helped lead the Mean Green to a key home win over Florida Atlantic, 41-38, Thursday to move North Texas to 8-3 on the season and to finish the home slate at 5-1. Torrey carried 17 times for a career best 184 yards, averaging 10.8 yards per carry, and scored two total touchdowns in the win. He also caught two passes for 38 yards, giving him a career-high 222 all-purpose yards on the night. Torrey opened the scoring for the Mean Green on a 13-yard touchdown catch, his second receiving touchdown of the season and capped it off with a 92-yard run that pushed the Mean Green lead to 41-31 late in the fourth quarter. The 92-yard run was the longest offensive play of the season for the Mean Green, and the fourth-longest run in program history, and the longest since 1995 when Cedric Cromer busted a 95-yard run. Torrey has a team-high 13 rushing touchdowns on the season, and leads the team with 16 total touchdowns (which ranks sixth in the nation).
