DENTON - Nominations for the 2018 North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame class will close on Thursday, March 1.
Anyone may nominate a former Mean Green student-athlete, coach, or administrator who is at least five years removed from the program for consideration by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee. To submit a nominee, click here for the Hall of Fame Nomination Form.
Beginning this year, the North Texas Letterwinners Association is involved in the Hall of Fame selection. The president of the association is on the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, and dues-paying NTLA members can vote for the 2018 class.
The Hall of Fame Selection Committee, made up of 10 individuals with strong ties to UNT (including multiple Hall of Fame members), will meet in March to determine the 10 names to be placed on the ballot for 2018. There can be no more than five nominees from any one sport on the ballot at a time.
The final ballot will be distributed to active members of the Letterwinners Association, Hall of Fame inductees, McCain Award recipients and the Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Voting will take place April 1-15 by mail or email.
A maximum of six former athletes, coaches, and administrators may be inducted in a year (includes the McCain Award honoree, if presented). No more than three individuals from any one sport may be selected in any year. Nominees not selected for induction are automatically rolled onto the ballot the next year and the selection committee will fill the remaining ballot slots at their annual meeting. A nominee may remain on the ballot for five consecutive years and then must roll off at least one year before reconsideration by the Hall of Fame Committee.
Established in 1981, the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame acknowledges former student-athletes, coaches, and administrators whose accomplishments brought credit to the University of North Texas and had a special impact on Mean Green athletics.
The 2018 class will be announced in June, and the induction ceremony will be held in September or October.
