DENTON - The North Texas track and field team opened the outdoor season in style last weekend with two school records and multiple podium finishes heading into the 38th running of UT Arlington's Bobby Lane Invitational on March 23-24.
The meet will feature host UT Arlington, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Austin College, Cowley College, Dallas Baptist, East Central, Kansas Wesleyan, Langston, Lawrence, Midwestern State, Missouri Southern, Northern Illinois, Northwestern State, Oklahoma Christian, Southwest Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas College, Texas Wesleyan, ULM and Wiley.
The Mean Green will be sending 80 student-athletes to compete hoping to earn top-times nationally. Qualification to the NCAA West preliminary round is based on the descending order list from meet results during the season as the top-48 student-athletes will be accepted into the competition.
In the west region, North Texas is already off to a great start with senior Mike Lowe sitting 29th with his 1500m time of 3:55.17 and sophomore Florian Lussy's time of 3:55.58 in 32nd. Junior Jourden Taylor is 26th in high jump at 2.00 meters. Senior Dominique Drayden is 26th in triple jump with a mark of 14.26 meters. Sophomore Karl Sralla is 14th in discus at 53.34 meters and junior Javier Lopez-Ibarra is ninth at 66.55 meters in javelin.
On the women's side, junior Rea Iseli is 24th in the nation in 800-meters with a time of 2:12.98. Freshman Amber Walker is 43rd in high jump at 1.63 meters. Sophomore Bailey Ashmore's school record vault of 3.96 meters is ranked fifth nationally. Sophomore Kristyn Archuleta, who qualified last season, is ninth in javelin at 48.54 meters.
Friday's opening day will feature a pair of field events. The hammer throw (women followed by men) will begin at 9:30 a.m., while the javelin (women than men) will commence at 2:30 p.m.
