Khaw Paces Mean Green On Day One Of Mountain View

March 23, 2018

TUCSON, Arizona - Senior Nyca Khaw led the way for the Mean Green on day one of the Mountain View Collegiate Friday, finishing the first round of action at even-par.

The Mean Green sit in a tie for 12th place at 14-over-par, and Khaw's performance netted her a tie for 10th place individually at the conclusion of round one.

"I am happy with the way Nyca played today," head coach Michael Akers said. "She had five birdies and really played well. We didn't get production through four players though. The scores are really bunched up so we just need to go out and have a solid round tomorrow."

Khaw had her best round of the season Friday, carding a 72. The Mean Green's lone senior birdied on five occasions, and opened at -2 on her front nine. She birdied No. 10, No. 15, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 8, respectively. Additionally she recorded pars nine times during her first round.

Junior Sabina Pena had a strong day as well, posting a three-over 75. She birdied four times, and aside from a difficult triple bogey on No. 17, Pena was very efficient on the day. She birdied No. 16, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 9 to help finish her back nine at even-par. Pena currently sits in a tie for 30th.

The second round tees off Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. CT from Mountain View Golf Club.
