TUCSON, Arizona - The Mean Green shot a spring-best round of 295 on the third and final day of the Mountain View Collegiate Sunday, finishing five-over on the day, and +43 for the tournament.

The Mean Green finished in a tie for 11th place and were led by junior Sabina Pena's even-par round of 72. Pena had the best round of her tournament Sunday and finished in a tie for 25th place at eight-over.

"We had a solid round today which is a good way to finish the event," head coach Michael Akers said. "It is good to have your best round be the last round. Sabina played very well and Sol showed signs of being back to her normal scoring range. We need to work on taking advantage of the easy holes and really get the birdies when they are there for the taking. A top-five finish was well within our grasp but we didn't take advantage at the end of round one, which put us in a tough pairing for round two. Now we focus on our home event and look forward to showing off the incredible Maridoe Golf Club."

Pena was steady throughout the day, as she parred 14 holes and birdied on two more occasions (No. 4 and No. 8). Pena's 72 Sunday was five shots better than her round two performance Saturday and three shots lower than her round one score.

Pena was not the only member of the Mean Green that performed well Sunday, as fellow junior Sol Lee added a 73, while sophomore Elena Kim posted her best round of the tournament at two-over.

Lee birdied four times across an eight-hole span (on No. 2, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 9) to climb eight spots on the leaderboard, while Kim parred 14 holes and birdied No. 7.

The Mean Green return to action when they host the inaugural Bruzzy At Maridoe on April 2-3 to conclude their spring regular season. It will be the first tournament hosted by either of the North Texas golf programs at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton.
