TORRANCE, CA - Senior distance runner Mike Lowe broke a 38-year old school record in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 29:39.62 on Thursday, April 19, at the Mt. SAC Relays.
"I am especially excited for Mike Lowe and the 10k school record," head coach Carl Sheffield said. "Mike has had three different distance coaches in his career at North Texas. I think it's finally coming together for him and the rest of the distance runners."
Lowe ran his career-best time in the 10000m invitational elite finishing 28th and broke Juan Zetina's record time of 29:44.00 set on April 3, 1980. It is the second best time currently in the Conference USA.
On Friday, April 20, at the Mt. SAC Relays, the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Darien Porter, James Cole, Alford Tribble and Dominique Drayden placed second with a season-best time of 40.53.
Senior Christina Moralez finished 11th in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 16:58.33, third-fastest time in school history, at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday night. Sophomore Florian Lussy was 10th in the men's 5,000m run posting a career-best time of 14:18.60, third-best in school history.
-The women's 4x100-meter relay team (Taylor Blackshire, Aneesa Scott, Bria Williams, Breanna Eckels) finished seventh with a season-best time of 46.19
-Junior Rea Iseli came in 77th in the 1500-meter run with a career-best time of 4:29.18 at the Bryan Clay Invitational
-Junior Baylee Nelson finished 54th in the 800-meter run at the Bryan Clay with a time of 2:12.80
-Senior Victoria Junious was 69th in the 800m at the Bryan Clay with a time of 2:14.40
North Texas will finish the split squad weekend at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach on Saturday, April 21.
