DENTON – North Texas head softball coach Rodney DeLong
released the team's 2018 fall schedule, which runs from Sept. 27-Oct. 30 and features four home games.
"I'm really excited to start playing with them and getting to know them more," DeLong said. "See how they work and handle adversity. All those things will be important this fall."
The Mean Green will open the fall season against Murray State College on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with North Central Texas College at 6 p.m. Oct. 3. North Texas will host Oklahoma at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 before going up to the Sooner State to take on Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Oct.17.
"I'm glad we're playing some good competition this fall," DeLong said. "It'll prepare us and show us where we're at."
The fall slate continues against Weatherford College at 6 p.m. Oct. 24 back at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green will host Grayson County College in the final exhibition on Oct. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
DeLong, who was hired on June 13, looks to turn around a North Texas team that finished 25-27 and 11-12 in Conference USA this past season. The Mean Green swept defending C-USA tournament champion LA Tech and won a series over eventual C-USA regular season champion, Florida Atlantic, but UNT was ousted in the first round of the conference tournament for the second-straight year.
The Mean Green lost only two players from the 2018 squad and return C-USA Newcomer of the Year, Katie Clark
, along with second-team all-conference selections Lacy Gregory
and Hope Trautwein
. North Texas sit single-season program records for home runs (54) and shutouts (eight), and finished with the second-highest slugging percentage in school history (.443) in 2018.
"There's some good leaders in this group that have made the transition pretty smooth," DeLong said. "It's made the implementation of what we want to do a lot easier."
Admission to North Texas fall home games are free.
