Rosenmueller Two Back Of Lead With 18 To Play

DALLAS — Thomas Rosenmueller shot a second straight 5-under-par 66 on Monday to put himself alone in second place heading into Tuesday's final round of the Trinity Forest Invitational and has UNT in a tie for third heading into the final 18 holes.

The senior from Munich, Germany, is two shots back of the lead after posting four straight birdies on Holes 3-6 to briefly put himself in a tie for first place on Monday, and is in position to win his first tournament title since his freshman year, when he won the Quail Valley Collegiate Championship in 2015.

"I've been feeling really good about my game for a while," Rosenmueller said. "I'm hitting the ball really well and my putting and short game is great, so I'm really confident in what I am doing right now. I've been hungry for good results for a while, and finally my game is coming along really well. I look forward to competing for a trophy again tomorrow."

Rosenmueller, who leads the tournament through two rounds in Par 4 scoring, was the highlight on the day for the Mean Green, but he wasn't alone in putting UNT in a tie for third place with Baylor at 14-under par after shooting second-round 5-under 279. Fellow senior Jordan Sanders fired a 1-under 70 to put himself in a tie for 19th along with teammate Lenny Bergsson.

Bergsson, a freshman playing in his second collegiate event, stumbled on the front nine Monday but posted a 5-under on the back nine with birdies at 11, 13, 14, 15 and 17 to finish the day at 3-under 68.

"The thing that gives me confidence in this group of guys is that any of them can go out and shoot a 65 tomorrow," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "And Thomas is performing like you expect a senior to play. It's great to see Thomas play to his ability."

UNT and Baylor are two shots back of second-place College of Charleston and six back of leader and host SMU (20-under) heading into Tuesday's final round.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, when the Mean Green are scheduled to tee off at 8:32 a.m., and are paired with fifth-place Little Rock and sixth-place Florida. Fans can head to Dallas to support the Mean Green or keep track of the tournament at GolfStat.com.
