DENTON – The 2018-19 academic year was another banner year and big step forward for Mean Green sports, which is illustrated in the annual report released Thursday by the department of athletics.
The report shines a light on a number of remarkable achievements, including the UNT athletic teams posting the best combined winning percentage in school history, the completion and dedication of a new soccer and track facility and fundraising efforts ranked among the top three years in history.
"As we continue to foster a culture of accountability and transparency we hope this report serves as an open book for the progress we have made as a department, but also the challenges and opportunities we have moving forward as we continue to build champions and prepare leaders," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said.
Revenue numbers increased for every sport during the 2018-19 season, and attendance numbers were up, as well. Football set an all-time single-season attendance record with an average of 23,355 fans coming to games at Apogee Stadium in the fall of 2018. Overall, more than 250,000 people attended North Texas athletic events during the year.
A record seven teams recorded a perfect Academic Progress Rate score from the NCAA and the Graduation Success Rate was also at an all-time high during the year. In all, 252 of UNT's 350 student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.0 or better for the year.
