Bruzzy's 3D Tour
Bruzzy's UNT Golf Facility had its ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, prior to the Mean Green's football game against UAB with both the men's and women's teams on hand along with North Texas president Neal J. Smatresk, Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker, members of the UNT System Board of Regents, and the facility's namesake and lead donor, Jerome "Bruzzy" Westheimer.
The $3 million on-campus practice facility is located on the east side of the former Eagle Point Golf Course on the east side of Apogee Stadium and Victory Hall, and houses both the men's and women's golf team. Bruzzy's UNT Golf Facility is 5,047 square feet and features two hitting bays with state-of-the-art swing analysis and technology. Additional features include a virtual putting green along with chipping and putting areas, locker rooms, study space, coaches offices, a lounge and kitchen area. The North Texas men's and women's golf teams have not had an on-campus outdoor training facility since the former Eagle Point Golf Course was shut down in 2003.
Westheimer has been instrumental in the upgrade and development of the UNT golf programs and other university educational endeavors over the past several years. He was honored as the recipient of the 2019 Wings of Eagles Award, which is the most prestigious award presented by the president for a person who embodies the true spirit of UNT through engagement, generosity and affinity. He celebrated the grand opening by hitting an exploding ball filled with streamers for the ceremonial first drive at the facility along with a ribbon cutting by President Smatresk. Other gifts for the project came from Ken and Ann Newman, C. Dan and Le'Nore Smith, David and Lynn Riley, Sam and Valerie Golden, Tom Klammer, Ernie Kuehne, Knowles Cornwell, Ward and Joyce White and Brad and Vicki Olson.
