The Mean Green boast one of the few volleyball-only facilities in the region with the UNT Volleyball Center. Just as the Super Pit and DATCU Stadium offer their sports dedicated facilities with on-site offices and locker rooms, so does the Volleyball Center.
Opened in 2006, the UNT Volleyball Center has been home to raucous crowds and championship-caliber volleyball, and attendance numbers often exceed the official capacity of 450. The Mean Green pep band plays at home matches, which adds to the boisterous atmosphere.
The Volleyball Center was one of the first facilities in the Mean Green Village, the area that has become the primary home for UNT athletics situated across I-35E from the main campus on land formerly occupied by the Radisson Hotel, Eagle Point golf course and Liberty Christian School.
In 2005, Liberty Christian moved to a new campus in nearby Argyle and UNT acquired their property on South Bonnie Brae Street and began converting it for University use. The former basketball gymnasium was completely renovated and transformed into a Division I-caliber volleyball facility.
A volleyball court made of Robbins SportWood parquet flooring was installed and locker rooms, offices, meeting rooms, officials’ dressing rooms and auxiliary training facilities were outfitted.
Ahead of the 2023 season, the court was resurfaced along with fresh court and scoreboard decals to celebrate UNT’s move to the American Conference. In the summer of 2025, renovations to the Mean Green Olympic Village facility were completed, including coaches’ offices, locker rooms and a training room.
