A distance specialist in the late 1970s and early '80s, Ben Moturi still holds the school record in the 1,500-meter run with a 3:43.44 time, more than four seconds faster than No. 2.
His career best time of 14:22.35 in the 5,000-meter event ranks fourth best in school history. He was also a member of the 4x800-meter team in 1980 that set the school's fourth-best time of 7:34.44.
Moturi's school record 3:43 in the 1,500 meters is equivalent to a 4-minute mile a barrier that no North Texas athlete has ever run faster than.
He was the 1980 NCAA Regional champion in cross country, qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
