As a defensive tackle for the Eagles from 1949 to 1951, Bill Bishop was named all-Gulf Coast Conference as a junior and senior.

He played on two conference championship teams at North Texas before going on to play for the NFL's Chicago Bears. He was an All-Pro in 1954, 1955 and 1958.
