Bobby Way was a three-year letterman and helped lead North Texas to a Missouri Valley Conference title in 1958, a share of the title in 1959 and a berth into the Sun Bowl.
Way was an anchor on the offensive line, playing guard and blocking for Abner Haynes. Way helped Haynes lead the Mean Green in rushing for three straight seasons from 1957-59, and North Texas captured 21 wins in three seasons.
The 1959 squad won the first eight games of the year and went on to win the conference title and appear in the Sun Bowl, only the third bowl game in school history.
Way was a two-way player for North Texas as he was also a linebacker for the Mean Green defense.
