One of the most successful long distance runners in North Texas history, Imel competed in cross country and track for the Mean Green from 1951 to 1955.
A two-time captain of the track team, Imel went undefeated in cross country as a sophomore and lost just once as a junior. In track, Imel won the mile event at the prestigious Border Olympics for three consecutive years.
