In 1989, Pegram rushed for 513 yards to earn second-team all-Southland Conference honors, but amassed 1,594 all-purpose yards as a senior in 1990. He rushed for 957 yards and caught 44 passes that season, becoming only the second North Texas player to lead the team in rushing and pass receptions in the same season.
Pegram later played in the NFL for six seasons and was the starting running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.
