Herb Ferrill played football at North Texas, but his biggest impact was as the golf team's head coach.
Ferrill lettered three years and played on two bowl teams at North Texas. After his playing days, he served as a football assistant coach at UNT, then took over the golf team after the death of legendary golf coach Fred Cobb in 1954.
Taking over a program that won four-consecutive national championships from 1949 to 1952, Ferrill guided the golfers to 16 conference championships beginning in 1955. His teams placed second at the NCAA tournament in 1957 and 1963. He last team in 1983 won the Southland Conference championship.
