No. 16 - The 2002 squad sets all-conference record
It's a long list. J.R. Randle, Nick Zuniga, Jeff Muenchow, Kevin Galbreath, Brandon Kennedy, Darrell Daniels, Taylor Casey, Cody Spencer, Craig Jones, Don McGee, Matt Turney, Adrian Awasom, Chris McIver, Jonas Buckles, Brad Kadlubar and Ja'Mel Branch.
16 players were all named to the all-conference team for North Texas in 2002, a school record. It was a banner year for North Texas as they won the 2002 New Orleans Bowl that season and ended the year on a seven-game winning streak.
Kennedy took home the most hardware that season. The big d-lineman was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2002.
Of the 16 players, 10 of them were named first-team. All four defensive lineman for the Mean Green that year, Awasom, Daniels, Kennedy, and McIver were all-conference. Three of the five offensive lineman were selected.
Two of the three linebackers, and three of the four defensive backs were all-conference picks that year. In fact of the 11 regular starters on defense in 2002 for North Texas, nine of the 11 were named to the all-conference defense. Tells you how good they were.
The 2001 team set the benchmark with 14 all-conference picks as that squad got things rolling, but the 2002 shattered their record with a school record 16 all-conference picks.
