No. 15 - Ray Renfro Runs Into All-America Honors
The number 15 is a fairly magical one for the North Texas football program. For instance, it's the number of undefeated seasons in Fouts Field history, and the school record number of sacks in a season by Willis Hudson in 1994. Way back in 1929, NT set the school record for the number of touchdowns in a single game with 15 against Decatur Baptist.
But it's tough to top Ray Renfro's run in with the No. 15 in 1951. That year, Renfro racked up 15 total touchdowns, destroying the previous school record en route to First Team Associated Press All-America honors - a first in school history.
Renfro went on to a stellar pro career after being drafted in the 4th round by the Cleveland Browns the next spring. He carried the ball just 10 times as a rookie, but exploded onto the scene as a Pro Bowl receiver/running back threat in just his second season.
He would eventually tally three Pro Bowl seasons and two All-Pro campaigns. Renfro scored 55 career touchdowns in 12 NFL seasons, and ranks 15th in NFL history with a career average of 19.6 yards per catch.
