It's a tradition near the end of August for most coaches to reward some of the hard working walk-on football players with a scholarship and head coach Dan McCarney has chosen three players this year.
Trent Deans, Kyle White, and Jamaal Wilson have been put on scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year. The trio has all had an impact on the program through the last few years.
Deans has been called on by North Texas to fill many different roles. He was the placekicker and then took over for the injured Will Atterberry as the punter last season. White has worked his tail off this past off-season to work his way back into the defensive line rotation.
Wilson, like Deans, has helped out the Mean Green in many ways. Mainly a special teams guy, Wilson had nine tackles last season and returned kicks, while being part of the secondary.
All three guys will have a role this season again for the Mean Green, but this year they will have a little more help off the field with a scholarship.
