No. 10 - 1947 Season Sees 10 Victories
Two years after World War II saw one of the best seasons in North Texas history.
The Mean Green completed the year as the Lone Star Conference Champions with a 10-2 record overall and an unblemished 8-0 record in conference.
NT allowed only 27 points in six conference games 64 points overall. The Mean Green's only loss came against at Arkansas in a 12-0 game.
Following the loss, NT ran off a streak of eight straight wins, including a 20-12 win over Florida and a 33-0 victory over Houston.
Ten wins was good enough for North Texas to make its first bowl game ever, the 1948 Salad Bowl against Nevada.
After an early TD, NT was prevented from scoring again and lost the game 13-6.
Even with the bowl loss, the 1947 season and 1948 Salad Bowl appearance were the first of many steps forward for the North Texas football program under the supervision of Odus Mitchell.
