No. 8 - Vizza Fires Eight TD Passes Against Navy
Talk about a shootout. North Texas vs. Navy on November 10, 2007 was one for the ages. When the game ended, Giovanni Vizza ended with eight touchdown passes, which remains an NCAA record for most TD passes by a freshman in a game.
Vizza tossed three TD's in the first quarter, four in the second, and one more in the third quarter. Casey Fitzgerald was on the receiving end of five of the eight TD passes as North Texas scored 62 points that day, but still lost 74-62 to Navy.
Vizza was good from short range, with two nine-yard TD strikes, the mid-range, four TD passes between 15 and 40 yards, and two long balls from 60 and 75 yards out.
The game featured video-game like offenses, as Vizza's final line read, 40-for-50, 478 yards, 8 TD's, 2 INT's. His eight TD's by a freshman remain an NCAA record.
