DENTON - Al and Darlene McNatt will be inducted into the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame this week as the 2019 recipients of the Fred McCain Award. The McCain Award began in 2012 as a way to honor people whose contributions and efforts advance the athletic program in major ways.
"Since the first day that I arrived at North Texas, the McNatt family has been supportive of everything we have done to help create a winning culture for our student-athletes," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "Al and Darlene, as well as Jim and Linda, have been rocks on which we have been able to build a foundation for the next generation of champions and leaders and this award could not go to a more deserving family."
Al McNatt earned his B.A. in marketing from UNT in 1968. He was active in the Kappa Sigma fraternity as a student, and was later named to the fraternity's Board of Directors. McNatt has been successful in business ventures all over the North Texas region. Al is owner and president of McNatt Properties, and along with his brother Jim, have significant interests in commercial development projects throughout the region. Jim was inducted into the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame as the McCain Award honoree in 2015.
Darlene earned her B.S. in elementary education from UNT in 1967. She was active in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority during her time as a student. She has been active in several philanthropic endeavors in and around the Denton and North Texas communites.
The McNatts have been longtime supporters of Mean Green athletics. They are responsible for the creation and expansion of various facilities throughout Mean Green Village, including the most recent, an indoor practice facility which bears their family name. Al and Darlene will be recognized at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony this Friday, Oct. 18, along with fellow 2019 inductees J.W. St. Clair (coach), Marcus Camper (football), Casey Fitzgerald (football), Kelsey Hodges (soccer), Amber Jackson (basketball), and Zach Orr (football).
