DENTON – The North Texas athletics department raised nearly $4.6 million in contributions for the 2018-19 year, which was the third-largest annual total in department history. That effort builds on the previous three years since Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker began his tenure, making each of the last four years the highest totals for private donations in Mean Green athletics history.
"There is a direct correlation in the success of our athletic teams and the commitment we have from our donors and season-ticket holders," Baker said. "It is impossible to achieve and maintain a level of success in competition and academics without the generous assistance of our supporters, and we don't take that for granted in any way."
In the last year, the Mean Green Scholarship Fund increased the number of donors by 9%, which increases the MGSF membership by 31% since Baker arrived in 2016. UNT athletics received its third $1 million-plus gift in the past two years and completed the funding for the brand new Lovelace and McNatt Families Practice Facility. North Texas Athletics coaches and staff achieved 100% giving participation for the second consecutive year to further support the department mission of building champions and preparing leaders. UNT's 109 full-time staff members raised more than $34,000 in support of scholarships for Mean Green student-athletes - a 25% increase over last year's staff total.
Football and basketball attendance was on the rise in 2018-19, and suite sales in Apogee Stadium were sold out, as was premium seating for Mean Green men's basketball.
For additional information, the 2018-19 UNT Athletics Annual Report, released earlier this month, can be found at www.MeanGreenSports.com/AnnualReport.
Mean Green alumni and fans are encouraged to make a gift as we strive to further increase support for student-athletes. To give to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund today, please visit www.MeanGreenScholarshipFund.com.
