Samaniego Selected as Field Athlete of the Week

DALLAS – Chris Samaniego was named the Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the H-Town SpeedCity Series Saturday as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Samaniego became the second athlete in program history to mark over 18 meters in weight throw to rank second in the Mean Green record books with his personal-best throw of 18.06 meters in a first-place finish. That mark is the best throw in C-USA in 2021. The junior from Monahans also placed third in shot put.
Samaniego opened the season Jan. 9 at the K-State Invitational with a career-best toss of 16.39 meters in shot put. That mark also ranks second in program history and best in C-USA this season.
This is Samaniego's first such honor and the second ever for the Mean Green. Dominique Drayden won the award in 2017.
