Mean Green add four distance runners for class of 2024
DENTON, Texas – The UNT Cross Country and Track and Field coaching staff inked a class of four signees on Wednesday during the fall signing period.
North Texas' newest additions include three male distance runners and one female distance racer.
"I am extremely happy with our early signing class addressing some needs within our men's and women's programs," head coach Doug Marshall said. "They aren't just great runners but high character student-athletes and we are excited they chose to be here for the next four years."
Coming off a fourth-place finish at the UIL 5A cross country championships on Nov. 3, Logan Tauch signed his National Letter of Intent to race for the Mean Green. A three-time cross country state qualifier, Tauch recorded an honorable career at Melissa High School. As a junior, he posted a 3,000 meters time of 8:51.47, which was the 17th best time in the state of Texas, and then followed that up in the outdoor season with a personal best 14:51.47 in the 5,000 meters that was good for the 13th best time in Texas and 31st overall nationally.
Hailing from Georgetown, Texas, Nolan House is also a three-time cross country state qualifier at the 5A level. His final three cross country races representing Georgetown High School consisted of a personal best 15:13.40 at the district meet, a first-place finish at the UIL 5A Region 3 meet, and a 10th place finish at the state championships. In the 2022 outdoor season, House placed fifth and sixth in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters, respectively, at the region meet.
A native of Katy, Texas, Matthew Montgomery won the District 6A-19 and the Region 3 championship in the 5,000 meters as a senior. He set a personal best at the regional championship with a time of 15:11.39. As a junior, Montgomery posted the 18th best 1,500 meters time in Texas at 4:03.42. He was a three-time qualifier for the cross-country state championships, recording his highest finish in 2022.
The lone signee for the women's program, Maggie Cuppett is a DFW product coming from Northwest Nelson High School. A 2023 cross country state championship qualifier, Cuppett set a personal best 18:19.53 in the 5,000 meters earlier in the season at the Southlake XC Invite.
