DENTON, TEXAS – The UNT Track & Field program has released its schedule for the 2024 indoor and outdoor seasons that will begin in January and run through early June.
"I'm excited about this season and the schedule we put together," head coach Doug Marshall said. "We have some highly competitive meets to prepare us for our first year in the AAC. We really wanted to provide some opportunities to see some high-level talent each week and give our athletes a chance to put themselves out there."
The indoor season will consist of five regular season dates and two postseason dates, beginning with the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invite in Houston, Texas on Jan. 12. The Mean Green will compete for five consecutive weekends through January and February with stops at New Mexico, Texas Tech, Washburn University and a return trip to Houston.
Postseason action kicks off at the American Indoor Conference Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on Feb. 23-24 where North Texas will compete for an AAC track & field championship for the first time. From there, individual qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston at the brand new the TRACK at New Balance March 8-9.
The Mean Green will roll straight into the outdoor season following the conclusion of the NCAA Indoor Championships. North Texas will host the UNT Bill Schmidt Invite on March 15-16 to open its outdoor slate.
A trip to Houston for the Victor Lopez classic will precede the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas to round out March.
The month of April consists of six events and begins with UNT hosting the Mean Green Relays on April 6. Following that, the team will split up among three events on the West Coast from April 11-13 at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University and two meets hosted by Long Beach State University. The regular season will come to an end with the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor and the Corky/Crofoot Shootout at Texas Tech.
The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by UTSA at the Park West Athletics Complex May 10-12. North Texas will then begin NCAA postseason action at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 22-25. The 2023-24 season will officially come to an end at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field June 5-8.
