Distance Runner Joseph Wienen Added to Signing Class

DENTON, Texas – The UNT Cross Country and Track & Field program announced the addition of distance runner Joseph Wienen to its 2024 signing class.
A native of Georgetown, Texas, Wienen is a teammate of fellow signee Nolan House who signed to run for the Mean Green in November. The duo led Georgetown to a second-place team finish at the UIL 5A State Cross Country Championships.
A three-time qualifier for the state meet, Wienen recorded top-10 finishes twice, including a sixth-place finish in 2022 and a seventh-place finish in 2023. As a sophomore, he placed 22nd in his first state championship race.
He also qualified for the state track and field championships as a junior and senior in multiple events. As a junior, he recorded his highest placement in any event with a third-place finish in the 5A 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:18.26. He also placed seventh in the 1,600-meter run in 2023. In his first state track meet as a sophomore, he crossed the line fourth in the 1,600 meters in 4:18.57.
Wienen is the fifth member of the 2024 signing class for the Mean Green, joining House, Logan Tauch and Matthew Montgomery on the men's side. Maggie Cuppett of Northwest Nelson HS is the lone signee of the women's side.
