A record-setting throw toppled the program and conference record.
DENTON, Texas – UNT thrower KeAyla Dove has been named Co-Women's Field Athlete of the Week in the American Athletic Conference after a record-breaking throw at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
In a first-place finish at the event, Dove broke her own indoor shot put school record and The American conference record with a throw of 17.83m. The new record surpassed the program's previous mark of 17.77m she set at the 2023 Conference USA Indoor Championships and the AAC's previous record of 17.46m that was set by Nu'uausala Tuilefano of Houston last year. Her new personal best this season ranks No. 3 in the nation for shot put.
She shared the honor with UTSA's Ida Breigan who broke The American's long jump record with a distance of 6.47 meters at the Lumberjack Team Challenge.
This is the third career weekly honor for Dove, her first of the season, and UNT's first of the season.
Next up for the Mean Green is the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston, Texas, Jan. 26-27.
