Student-Athletes Honored at 8th Annual Scrappys Awards

DENTON, Texas – North Texas Athletics hosted its eighth annual Scrappys Awards Monday night to honor its student-athletes' achievements in athletics, academics and community service during the 2023-24 school year.

The event, emceed by Hailey Sutton, was held at the Embassy Suites in Denton.

Highlights of the evening included recognition of the UNT women's basketball team earning their first conference title since 1986, and a special recognition for President Neal Smatresk.
Women's golf was honored for their top GPAs during both the Spring and Fall of 2023.

Additionally, each team along with cheer, dance and mascot had a Team MVP and Mean Green Spirit Honoree announced.

| Team Moment of the Year | Women's Basketball – UNT took down Memphis, 78-66, to close out the regular season with 23 wins and earn a share of the program's first conference title since 1986. The Mean Green won in front of the fifth-largest crowd for a women's basketball game at The Super Pit ever. |
