UNT Duo Qualifies For NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — UNT junior Aariyana Williams and sophomore Oluwatimilehim Williams led a record-tying Mean Green contingency of 19 student-athletes at the NCAA West Preliminary over the past four days by advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in their respective events.
Aariyana Williams ran a new personal best in the 400 meters on Saturday evening to finish 11th and finish inside the qualifying threshold of the top 12 while breaking her own program record with a 51.90. Olu Williams qualified for nationals in the discus on Friday night with a throw of 57.50 to finish eighth and get through to Eugene.
The national championships will be contested at Hayward Field in Eugene, on June 10-13. It will mark the first time UNT has sent anyone to the NCAA Championships since 2023, when the Mean Green sent three student-athletes. The top finisher then was KeAyla Dove, who finished 10th in women's shot put.
The Mean Green had a couple of close calls who just narrowly missed out on qualifying for the national meet, as seniors Hendrick Hundl (110 hurdles) and Tyler Moore (400 hurdles) finished 15th and 14th, respectively, while Moore clocked a new personal best of 50.25 seconds.
