EUGENE, Ore. — UNT junior Aariyana Williams and sophomore Oluwatimilehim Williams are set to kick off their time at the mecca of track and field, as they will take part in the NCAA Championships this week at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Aariyana Williams finished 11th in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to qualify for the meet while breaking her own program record with a 51.90. Olu Williams qualified for nationals in the discus with a throw of 57.50 meters to finish eighth and get through to Eugene.
The meet will mark the first time UNT has sent anyone to the NCAA Championships since 2023, when the Mean Green sent three student-athletes. The top finisher then was KeAyla Dove, who finished 10th in women's shot put.
Aariyana Williams will open up competition for the Mean Green on Thursday night when she runs in the 400 semifinals at 8:41 p.m., and it will be broadcast live on ESPN2. If she finishes in the top 9 after the semifinal, she will advance to Saturday night's final, which would be at 8:02 p.m., on ESPN2. Olu Williams will compete on Friday in the discus final at 4:15 p.m., which can be seen on ESPN+.
