The first week of February marks the observance of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), recognizing the influence of sports participation for women and girls and to honor the progress and struggle for equality for women in sports. On this episode of #GMGCast, Zac Babb and Hank Dickenson discuss the impact of sports and the opportunities they present for women both on and off the fields of play for two North Texas female student athletes, Jaylen Mallard from women's basketball and Gloria Alogo Piqueras from women's tennis.
That's followed by an interview with Jessie Gardner, the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Leadership and Culture Development and Senior Woman Administrator at North Texas. Zac and Hank talk to Jessie about her time as a student athlete playing soccer at UCF, her administrative roles at Nebraska and Alabama, initiatives and programs she works with at North Texas, and what can still be done to advance equality for women in sports.
