North Texas Track & Field Walk-On Procedures
All students interested in participating need to read the following information and complete the required paperwork before the tryout.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the tryout, students must complete and provide the following:
General Requirements
- Complete the Tryout Routing Form.
- Obtain signatures on the Routing Form in this order: event coach, athletic trainer, athletic academic advisor and compliance officer. Only athletes with a completed routing form will be will be eligible for the tryout.
- Complete the Tryout Waiver Form.
- Provide proof of full-time enrollment, such as a printed class schedule with minimum of 12 credit hours at UNT for the current semester. Your daily class schedule must be approved by your perspective event coach(es). If you are invited to join the track & field team, you may need to alter your class schedule to accommodate training with the team.
- A copy of your current medical insurance card.
- Proof of a physical exam performed within the last 6-12 months. Physicals may be completed anywhere by a physician. The most convenient location for current students is the on-campus Student Health Center.
NOTE: To speed up the process, students are encouraged to bring all necessary paperwork when you pick up your Tryout Routing Form.
Optional
Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center, including certified final amateurism and a member number. Click here to obtain this information online.
For Transfer Students
- For four-year college transfers, per NCAA rules, coaches are not allowed to have extended communication with potential transfers until they have submitted their name to the NCAA transfer portal.
- Provide final transcripts from your previous institution(s).
Tryout Procedures
The coaching staff will conduct sprint time trials for anyone interested in sprints, hurdles, horizontal jumps, or distance. Further evaluation of event-specific skills may be requested.
It is suggested that prospects arrive 30-45 minutes early to allow time to properly warm up for the session. The coaching staff may observe your warmup but will not conduct any portion of it. We also ask that you are prepared with appropriate attire and your own water.
Roster Spots
Men’s roster spots are limited and will be considered on a situational basis.
