The Mean Green men's basketball program has been ranked inside the top 100 of the NET in each of the last five seasons for the first time in program history. During the last five seasons North Texas has averaged 23 wins per year.
Over the last five seasons the Mean Green have won a NIT championship, three conference titles and its first NCAA Tournament game in program history when they upset Purdue in the first round in 2021. In the 2022-23 season UNT won a program record 31 games.
UNT is led by head coach Ross Hodge who was elevated to the position in 2023 after serving as our associate head coach for six seasons prior.

Recognized as one of the finest college basketball facilities in the nation, the Super Pit is home to both the University of North Texas men's and women's basketball teams. Built in 1973, the coliseum is designed for multi-purpose use and is frequently the setting for concerts and theater stage productions as well as athletic events. In 2013, the "E" Practice Facility opened, providing the men's and women's basketball teams with their own practice court.
Named for its benefactor, alumnus Ernie Kuehne, who spearheaded the fund raising to build a practice facility for the men's and women's basketball teams, softball, and golf, the "E" is located in the Mean Green Village on the west side of Bonnie Brae St. across the driveway from the Volleyball Center. The facility's centerpiece is a full-length basketball court, complete with locker rooms and scoreboard, allowing Mean Green basketball players to practice at any time.
