Athletic Training Students Info
The UNT Sports Medicine Department offers an apprenticeship program for any current UNT student interested in gaining valuable clinical experience in a NCAA Division I Athletics environment. Our apprenticeship program provides athletic training students with hands-on experience working closely with student athletes while attending treatments, practices and games both at home and on the road with North Texas athletic teams. This opportunity provides the athletic training student with an invaluable learning experience while ensuring the safety of the student-athletes. While working alongside the athletic-training staff, student athletic trainers will learn and apply basic athletic training techniques, including injury prevention, evaluation and management. We accept every level from incoming freshmen to last semester seniors, and do not require prior experience in athletic training. Most students pursue a degree in kinesiology, although this is not a requirement to join the UNT student athletic training apprenticeship program
ACADEMICS
Whether your post-grad goals are to be an athletic trainer (AT), physical therapist (PT), occupational therapist (OT) or doctor (MD), our apprenticeship program will empower you with real-world experience to help start your career.
Our students attend regular educational sessions hosted by both staff and guest speakers, and have assignments throughout the semester to help further their educational experience. Students in our program have a minimum 25hr/week commitment with their assigned sport and must maintain a 2.25 cumulative and semester GPA. All coursework must be completed around your assigned team's practice schedule.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available to athletic training students. Generally, scholarships are reserved for second and third year students.
