The Mean Green, led by fifth-year head coach Seth Littrell, will take their top-tier offense to South Carolina for the inaugural Myrtle Beach Bowl. North Texas completed the regular season with a 4-5 record, going 3-4 against Conference USA opponents. The Mean Green will face Appalachian State out of the Sun Belt in the first-ever meeting between the programs. The Mountaineers went 8-3 with a Sun Belt Conference record of 6-2 during the regular season.
This will be the 12th bowl game in North Texas history, and the fourth in the Seth Littrell era. The Mean Green's last bowl appearance was a 52-13 loss to #23 Utah State in the 2018 New Mexico Bowl.
North Texas enters the postseason with the seventh-ranked total offense in the nation, and top total offense in Conference USA at 515.0 yards per game. UNT exhibits great balance offensively, ranking 13th nationally in rushing yards (230.2 yards per game) and 22nd nationally in passing offense (284.8 yards per game).
This will be the Mean Green's first game against Appalachian State in program history. The Mountaineers are 5-0 all-time in bowl games and have not missed a postseason since they have been eligible after transitioning to FBS in 2014.
The Myrtle Beach Bowl is the first-ever bowl game to be hosted in the state of South Carolina. The inaugural game will be hosted at Brooks Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The bowl currently has partnerships with three conferences – Conference USA, Mid-American Conference (MAC) and the Sun Belt Conference.
