Dr. Leah Foster is on the heels of her third season with the UNT women’s basketball program and first as the director of leadership and engagement. She previously held the role of director of player engagement and assistant to the head coach during her first two seasons on staff.
In Foster’s three seasons, the Mean Green have compiled their most successful three-year stretch ever. UNT recently secured its third straight season winning at least 19 games, a first in program history, and its 67 wins in that span lead the American Conference. It also captured a share of the 2024 American Conference regular season championship and competed in back-to-back national postseason tournaments during her first two seasons.
North Texas also leads the league in several statistical categories in the last three years, such as points per game (71.6), field goals per game (26.0), field goal percentage (42.8) and opponent three-point percentage (28.4).
She joined the Mean Green after spending five seasons as the player development coordinator at TCU alongside Britney Brown. In that span, Foster helped the Horned Frogs to a pair of 20-win campaigns and a WNIT semifinal appearance in 2019. Before working at TCU, she was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Tulsa for three years.
Prior to Foster’s stint with the Golden Hurricane, she served in the same role at Loyola Chicago during the 2014-15 campaign and was an assistant coach at Houston from 2011 to 2014, where she recruited the country’s No. 22 class in 2012 according to Dan Olson’s Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
Foster also spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Dartmouth, helping the Big Green capture the 2009 Ivy League Championship and appear in the NCAA Tournament. She originally began her coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Texas State women’s basketball program for two years.
A four-year letterwinner at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, Foster earned Second Team All-Conference honors in 2005 and led the Hilltoppers to the Heartland Conference Championship the following season. She earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Edwards in 2006, her master’s degree in physical education-sports management from Texas State in 2008 and a doctorate in higher educational leadership from TCU in 2023.
