Edna Shiu joined the UNT sports medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer in the summer of 2025 and currently oversees the care of the Mean Green women's volleyball and women's tennis programs.
Prior to arriving at North Texas, Shiu served as a certified athletic training intern with the University of Michigan, working with the Wolverines' Olympic sports programs before becoming the primary athletic trainer for the field hockey team during the spring of 2025. In that role, she collaborated with coaches, team physicians, strength and conditioning staff, dietitians and athletic counselors to provide comprehensive care while managing injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and return-to-play protocols. She also assisted with medical coverage for NCAA Championship events and multiple Olympic sports.
Before her time at Michigan, Shiu worked as a PRN certified athletic trainer with Premier Sports Medicine, providing care for youth athletes across multiple sports, including hockey, soccer, basketball and volleyball.
She also completed an athletic training immersion with Major League Soccer, working alongside the medical staffs of the Seattle Sounders and Tacoma Defiance, where she gained experience in injury evaluation, rehabilitation, emergency management and return-to-play protocols.
A native of Washington, Shiu earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Michigan in 2024 after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Exercise Science from Arizona State in 2022. She is a certified athletic trainer (ATC).
