Lauren Cherry was named Assistant Director for NIL with UNT Athletics in June 2025.
Prior to her current role, Cherry was the Director of Recruiting Operations and High School Relations at Rice University. Her position focused on developing relationship-driven strategies to connect with high school programs and supporting recruits and their families through every step of the recruiting and onboarding process.Â
From 2020 to 2024, she worked as an educator and Director of Operations with Burleson ISD Athletics, where she focused on student-athlete exposure, community engagement, and social media strategy.
After graduating from the University of Texas–Permian Basin in January 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cherry began her career in broadcast journalism, covering Division II Angelo State and Concho Valley sports for KLST/KSAN in San Angelo, Texas.
Cherry spent several years covering football at all levels, serving as a reporter for the Under Armour Camp Series and contributing regularly to FNF Magazine. Her coverage of Texas high school football and statewide recruiting appeared in outlets such as Rivals.com, Scout Media, CBS Sports Digital, and The Old Coach. At Horned Frog Insider, she worked as a field reporter, providing viewers with insight on TCU football recruiting—including official visits, signing day, and pro day events. Her journalism career concluded in 2019 at KRIS 6 News in Corpus Christi.
A strong supporter of the Texas High School Coaches Association, she is also a featured speaker at the 2025 convention, presenting on “Women’s Success in Football.” Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time with her 13-year-old son, Brock. Cherry earned a Master of Arts in Education from UT Permian Basin in May 2023.
