Lauren Spencer was hired as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Governance and Regulatory Affairs in July of 2026.

Spencer arrived at UNT more than two decades of leadership experience across collegiate athletics, including extensive work in NCAA governance, compliance, Title IX, student-athlete support and athletics administration. She joins North Texas after serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Governance and Regulatory Affairs at Baylor.

In her role, Spencer serves as the chief compliance officer for UNT Athletics, providing strategic leadership, oversight, and vision for a comprehensive compliance program in the rapidly evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics. She leads governance and regulatory affairs for Mean Green Athletics, overseeing NCAA compliance, conference governance, institutional policy development, and regulatory strategy, while collaborating across campus to advance the department’s commitment to competitive excellence and student-athlete success.

At Baylor, Spencer served as the primary sport administrator for women's basketball while also overseeing Men’s and Women’s basketball & tennis compliance and governance functions. She directed the athletics department's Title IX initiatives, led policy development and compliance education efforts, coordinated NCAA eligibility, Academic Progress Rate (APR) oversight and CARA documentation, and partnered with university leadership on strategic initiatives, scholarship agreements and cross-functional departmental priorities.

She also worked extensively with coaches, student-athletes and campus partners to enhance student-athlete welfare, oversee international student-athlete compliance, manage governance responsibilities and ensure institutional alignment with NCAA and federal regulations. She previously served in an administrator role for Baseball and Volleyball programs

Prior to Baylor, Spencer served as Director of Tennis at Groesbeck ISD while also operating her own business, Red Brick Entertainment.

She previously enjoyed a highly successful Division I coaching career as head women's tennis coach at Auburn and SMU, becoming the winningest female coach in program history at both institutions. During her coaching career, she guided teams to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, coached dozens of All-Americans and earned numerous conference, regional and national coaching honors.

Spencer has also served in numerous national leadership positions, including appointments to the USTA National Board of Directors, the USTA National College Tennis Committee, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and multiple leadership committees within the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and NCAA.

A former Division I student-athlete at LA Tech, Spencer earned her bachelor's degree in education from LA Tech in 2003 and a master's degree in sport administration from Arkansas State in 2020.
