An innovative creator, Marcus Tompkins serves as UNT Athletics’s Assistant Athletic Director of Creative Design. Tompkins creates the Mean Green’ social media strategy, branding and content and is responsible for the design and management of all social, digital and print marketing materials. He runs the day-to-day operations of all @MeanGreenSports social.
He comes to Denton after serving as the director of creative media for Memphis football from February 2020 to November 2021. He was in charge of the design and management of all recruiting, digital and marketing content and was the lead photographer for program events. In a COVID adjusted recruiting class, Tompkins helped lead the Tigers to the highest ranked recruiting class in school history according to 247 Sports (47th overall) and the 2nd ranked class in the American Athletic Conference. He most recently served as designer for the 2018 & 2019 College Football Playoff Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl & 2018 Chick-fil-a Kick-off Game in Atlanta, GA, executing social media content during the week.
Tompkins got his start in the creative field as the creative lead designer for Mercer Athletics in September 2019. He took on the role of designing social and print content for all of the Bears’ sports. He managed social media content for all sports accounts, including the @MercerBears main platform, while collaborating with the communications staff to create sport-specific plans. He was in charge of planning and organizing photo shoots for each respective sport, as well as assisting in the execution of football National Signing Day.
