Willey was hired as assistant coach/director of operations in July 2025 and joins the Mean Green after spending two seasons as the men's and women's head coach at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he was named the KCAC Women's Coach of the Year in 2025Â and coached three all-conference players in his two seasons at the helm.
A native of Abilene, Kansas, Willey played collegiately at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas, which is also Akers'Â alma mater and was his first coaching stop. Willey finished his playing career in 2021. After his playing career, he served for two seasons at Fort Hays State as a graduate assistant coach.
