UNT softball makes its home at Lovelace Stadium, named for Don and Patty Lovelace, owner and CEO of Lily of the Desert Organic and UNT boosters. The stadium was constructed as part of North Texas’ overhaul of its athletic facilities beginning in 2005 with the creation of the Mean Green Village.
The first game was played at Lovelace Stadium against Nicholls on February 21, 2007. In total, the facility has hosted nearly 400 UNT softball games with over 100,000 fans inside its gates. The Mean Green enter the 2026 season with a winning home record in seven-consecutive seasons, dating back to 2019.
The field at Lovelace Stadium combines natural elements with synthetic enhancements. The infield is clay-based dirt and the warning track is Hilltopper Infield Mix, which is soil stabilized with a polymer that allows it to shrug off weather, keeping it from being too dusty or muddy, and creates a more consistent playing surface. The outfield is natural grass.
The outfield wall is 200 feet from home plate down the left- and right-field lines and 220 feet to center field. The left-field wall is adorned with recognition of the program’s three Conference USA championships while the program’s 2022 NCAA Regionals appearance is honored in right field. Lovelace Stadium has a grandstand behind home plate with a seating capacity of 450 and is topped by an enclosed, climate-controlled press box.
Lovelace Stadium features home and visitor’s bullpens bordering the field of play, down the first- and third-base lines. A trio of batting cages are nestled between the visiting bullpen and outer fence down the right-field line.
Beginning in 2021, renovations began to the facility with phase one featuring the installation of a Daktronics LED video display and audio system beyond the left-center field wall along with a complete field renovation, including a new drainage system, laser grading and a new natural grass playing surface, as well as a new outfield wall. UNT finalized phase two ahead of the 2024 season with the addition of new dugouts that are sunken 30 inches below field level with restrooms and pre-wired camera decks.
In addition to the new dugouts, phase two also upgraded the lighting system to Musco LED field lights with Show-Light® Special Effects. The award-winning company provided lighting for the Field of Dreams, numerous MLB parks, AT&T Stadium, multiple Super Bowls and Olympic Games, Texas Motor Speedway and various feature films.
Phase three of the Lovelace Stadium renovation project was announced on Jan. 30, 2025, with construction of a new UNT softball clubhouse that features both player and coaching staff locker rooms, team lounge and offices. A future phase is expected to include new grandstands, press box and more.
