Seven Lady Eagles Earn All-SBC Honors

Miami, Fla. (11/3/01) -- North Texas was well represented on both the 2001 All-Sun Belt Conference squads as well as the all-tournament team announced after the Lady Eagles' fell, 2-1, to Denver in the championship game
Five members of the North Texas soccer team were selected to the 2001 All-Sun Belt Conference team while three Lady Eagles were voted to the all-tournament team following the Sun Belt's post-season tournament.
Sophomore forward Marilyn Marin, who led the Lady Eagles in scoring for the second straight year, received first team all-conference honors for the second consecutive season. She was joined on the first team All-Sun Belt squad by North Texas teammates Carrie Kveton (Senior, midfielder) and Gina Turner (Senior, defender).
Named second team all-conference from North Texas were sophomore goalkeeper Monica Housden and junior midfielder Michelle Uselton.
A trio of North Texas players were named to the all-tournament team, including Marin, sophomore defender Angela Carter and redshirt freshman forward Melinda Pina.
Marin's 15 goals led the Lady Eagles for the second straight year. She also had three assists for a team-leading 33 points. Pina finished with 10 goals and 27 points while Kveton closed out her career at UNT with seven goals and three assists.
Housden started and played in 16 of the team's 18 games, finishing with four-and-a-half shutouts and a 11-5 overall record in net. For Turner, this year's team captain who was a four-year starter during her career, it marked the fourth consecutive year that she's been honored with all-conference recognition. She twice earned second team All-Big West Conference honors and last year was a second-team all-Sun Belt player.
