Football Hosts UL-Monroe On Homecoming Weekend

DENTON (11/16/05) - The Mean Green football team hosts Louisiana-Monroe on homecoming weekend this Saturday at 6 pm in Fouts Field. North Texas (2-7, 2-3) enters the matchup with Louisiana-Monroe (4-5, 4-1) on a four-game skid, following a 26-23 loss at Florida Atlantic. The Indians are at the top of the Sun Belt Conference standings with the school’s first-ever bowl bid in sight. The game can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
The roles have been reversed from previous seasons in the Sun Belt, with Louisiana-Monroe in the driver’s seat and the Mean Green playing spoiler in 2005. UL-Monroe brings the conference’s top passing attack, averaging over 217 yards per game, while quarterback Steven Jyles leads the Sun Belt in total offense. The Mean Green features the conference’s top all-purpose runner Patrick Cobbs. The 2003 national rushing champion, Cobbs is averaging 128.7 all purpose yards a game.
North Texas leads the overall series 11-10, taking the last three meetings against the Indians. North Texas owns a 7-3 record in Denton versus Monroe, while the Indians are 7-4 at home against the Mean Green. The former Southland Conference rivals fi rst met in 1978 in a 28-6 Mean Green win at Fouts Field.
